The day after Christmas I posted a column on the Best Teams in the NBA. At the end of this column I indicated that I was willing to comment on any NBA team people wished to hear about. Surprisingly people took me up on this offer and made requests.
With yesterday’s post on the Washington Wizards I have now analyzed all the teams people have asked for (I think), except the Toronto Raptors and Cleveland Cavaliers.
The analysis of the Raptors and Cavaliers is finished. Unfortunately, I have not gotten around to writing a story to go with the numbers. And since I feel obliged to tell an interesting story with the numbers, or at least something that approximates interesting, the analysis of these two teams is still sitting on my computer.
My hope is to finish these posts in a few days. As one can see HERE, when these two columns are on-line I will have commented on 21 of the league’s teams. Here is a list of the teams that I have yet to analyze.
- Atlanta
- Boston
- Charlotte
- Denver
- Miami
- Milwaukee
- New Orleans/Oklahoma City
- Philadelphia
- Seattle
I am not sure which of these teams should come after the Raptors and Cavaliers, so if anyone has a preference, please let me know.
By the way, I have also completed my analysis of NFL running backs. It turns out LaDainian Tomlinson is pretty good. Hopefully before I post those numbers I will have something more interesting to say.

I’d love to see the Celtics.

Ben,
Your first, so Boston will come after Toronto and Cleveland.

Woo-hoo! I’ve been dying for your Celtics analysis! As you know, this once great franchise has fallen upon hard times, particularly in the four years since Danny Ainge took over. Celtics fans (the few of us who still remain) are bitterly divided between those who buy Ainge’s line that the team has young players everyone in the league wants and who will develop into all-stars (Al Jefferson, Gerald Green, Kendrick Perkins, Delonte West, Rajon Rondo, Sebastian Telfair), and those of us who believe Ainge has consistently overvalued scoring. (Last year, he was quoted as saying “Great shooting makes up for a lot of shortcomings.”) I’m also particularly interested to hear what you have to say about Al Jefferson, who has consistently been putting up double figures in rebounds and points over the last month, while shooting a high percentage.

Much as I would love to see the Nuggets, with the AI trade and Melo’s suspension, the results would probably not be meaningful.

Do Boston, and then we’ll see what Bill Simmons thinks afterwards.

hk,
I am sure Simmons will love it.
hsfear,
You are right. Once Melo gets back we will see how this trade works out. Right now I am not optimistic. But we will just have wait and see.
By the way, Boykins for Blake — from the Nuggest perspective — doesn’t make much sense this year. If we look at last year’s numbers, though, it makes more sense.

I’d be interested to see Philly – how has Iverson’s departure affected people’s production? Is Miller helping or hurting overall production? Is, for instance, Andre I better now that Iverson is gone? Was he worse, but now with Miller there he is better?

Great blog — I just discovered it via http://www.Matthewyglesias.com.
I add to the requests for a Celtics analysis, by the way. Also, if you’re taking general requests, I was wondering what you guys think of the work and theories of Arthur Devany (/www.arthurdevany.com/), specifically with respect to steroids and home run hitting.

I’d like to see the 76ers and the nuggets. possibly analyzing the two teams, and comparing them both before and after the trade would be good in one post. in order to analyze one of them, you’d have to look at the other anyway. to compare the traded players perfomance before and after the trade. may as well do both teams then.

Jasper,
JC Bradbury — at Sabernomics — has commented extensively on steroirds. He seems sympathetic to Devaney’s position, and as I recall when I looked it over, I thought what Devaney said made sense.
Jake,
I would like to give this trade a few more games before looking this over. So far it does look like the 76ers are a bit better off and Iverson is what he was in Philadelphia. Let’s see what happens, though, when Carmelo and Iverson play together.
