[...] The third choice in the 2006 draft finished his first season as the second leading rookie scorer. He was also named by the NBA coaches to the All-Rookie second team, finishing just shy of a first team selection. People who looked past scoring (and by people I mean John Hollinger and myself), though, noted that Morrison was extremely unproductive as a rookie. His WP48 was -0.137 and he finished last in the league in Wins Produced. After this less than auspicious debut, I made the following observation: [...]

A quick comment on what TK said. I need to post on this in more detail, but for now I will simply note that the average rookie has a WP48 below 0.050. Second year players are better. But it is not until a player reaches his third year that on average he can produce at the NBA average. In sum, it is generally the case that few rookies get over the 0.100 mark.

Re: the T-Wolves

As db has pointed out in previous posts, this is an amazingly weak year for rookies. Yes, Minnesota has 2 of the top 10 rookies. But Craig Smith is a barely above average player (0.113) and Randy Foye is a substantially below-average player (0.053). I'm not sure this qualifies as "ironic" juxtaposed with the claim that the GM hasn't assembled a very good cast for Garnett .

In fact, it looks like there are only 5 rookies in the entire league producing notably more than an average player... astonishing!

I've seen all the rooks in the eastern conf play, not too much Western Conf, and I have to say that Bargnani is a far superior player to Shelden Williams. Not even close. Bargnani can catch and shoot like Bird or Dirk. Great court sense on offense. Shelden Williams' season was about equal to Josh Boone's in terms of the principal boxscore statistics, on a per minute basis.

Also, putting 2 Twolves in the top ten is pretty ironic considering your other posts saying that KG's lack of a ring is largely attributable to his teammates' lack of production.

But Morrison didn't belong on any award list, I tend to agree with Hollinger on that one.

Kevin Durant.

Of course, I'm a UT guy, so I may be slightly biased.

Very gratifying to think that Mr. Ainge might actually have made a savvy acquisition here, Dave. Thanks for the encouraging evaluation.

It's also encouraging that the kid's shooting improved as his PT went up late in the season: 47% as a starter, and 55% in April. Also, he wears #9 in Beantown--what's not to like?

Now, who should the Celts draft once they win the lottery...?
