[...] And all this returns to a point I made last summer when Lewis was signed. At small forward, Lewis can post numbers that might justify his contract. At small forward he is an adequate rebounder and an outstanding scorer. At power forward, though, his inability to rebound is problem.
Andrew, you have it right. Lewis has never played much 4 during his time in the league and Orlando is NOT going to be tempted to play him there. He doesn't have the bulk to match up with the bigger PFs in the league and Orlando isn't paying him $15 million a year to bang around with them.

Am I the only one who hasn't seem Rashard Lewis play much PF at all? I've never heard anybody even mention that it was a position he plays. Perhaps once in a while when the Sonics wanted to play small ball to match up with another team lacking big men he would shift over there, but in my mind he really isn't a PF at all. Despite his height, I don't ever remember seeing him being asked to guard a true PF.

Stupid question, but why the 0 in comb0 and f0rward?

"Lewis is a comb0-forward"
"Magic had to pass on power f0rward"

I agree that Lewis is much better as a 3 than a 4. I would note however that the Magic have not passed on Milicic. They still have the right to resign him. What they lost was the right to match another team's offer. Indeed, they can offer at least as much as any uncapped team (of which there are few left) and they can offer him more than any capped team, as long as they are willing to pay the resulting luxury tax. Even if they lose him, they can get a veteran 4/5 with the midlevel exception. However, the Magic payroll will go up sharply next year when they resign Howard, as they must, and then the opportunity cost of the Lewis deal will become apparent. Since Orlando is a very attractive place to recruit free agents to, I think they should have passed on Lewis this year, gone into the lottery next year, allowed non-Howard salary to run off and then gone after a higher quality free agent down the road. Seattle seems to be doing that sort of disciplined multi-year planning and by 09-10 I thnk it will pay off for them.
