p.s-
college numbers do tell you everything.

You have to think of players as having a
certain amount of positive basketball energy.
If Stackhouse doesnt have as many rebounds
in the NBA as he did in college that energy goes
somewhere else. In his case it has been used
to take less productive shots, which showed up
in his college stats. I rank him as an average
prospect coming out of college while i rank
jordan as the second best prospect out of
college ever, with Magic Johnson being first.

Your table is informative yet misleading. As
someone else pointed out there is 0 adjustment
for Pace which is the main monkey wrench in
your argument. Look at MJ vs. anyone per
possesion and he blows everyone out of the
water.

Stackhouse is a living/breathing argument against
expecting very much from Mr. Durant. His
basketball energy will too be wasted on taking
bad shots and unfortunately he will be praised
for causing the sonice many losses in the future.

About the rebounds and winscore,
Jordan played the two in college.

Stackhouse played the three and four while
at UNC.

So without making the proper adjustments
for posution your argument is misleading.

"Table One reports the stats for each player his last year playing college basketball"
I believe their college stats would show Jordan as the much better player, if possessions/game were taken into account. I could not find that info directly, but did find the NC scores from both seasons. In MJ's last college season NC 2nd highest scoring total was 84 points. In JS's final season NC topped that score in 16 separate games. Clearly JS had many more trips down the court in his 40 min, shown in your Table 1.

It's curious that someone who was such a strong rebounder in college would simply stop rebounding once he reached the pros and consequently stop being productive. Not dissimiliar from what's happened with Mello, and what I suspect will happen with Durant.

<i>"(...)he does have the ability to get to the free throw line and make free throws."</i>

Is the former stat at least partly just a function of how he takes an above-average number of shots?
