Why aren't you in this year's Stat Geek Smackdown?

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/playoffs2008/news/story?page=Smackdown08

You did well last year -- were you not invited or did you decline the invitation? I also see that the man who said Chris Paul's adjusted plus/minus is horrible, Stephen Ilardi, is in this year's line up. I'll be interested to see how he does.

"But for other teams - Chicago and Dallas immediately come to mind– past performance doesn’t match perfectly with the future. At least, it doesn’t for every player on the team. When this happens, we have to look at the individual players to see specifically which player’s production has changed. And then we have to look at the individual numbers to see where player performance is different."

As a Bulls fan, I look forward to your analysis of the Chicago Bulls' unexpected collapse this year. It seems as if all the players played badly compared to past performance, but I wonder if a statistical analysis would reveal that certain players were more responsible for the collapse than others.

Many Bulls fans blame Ben Wallace, but I primarily blame Kurt Hinrich. Yes, Wallace continued to deteriorate, but that had already begun last year, and Noah and Thomas were capable, I judge, of replacing what Wallace did last year. Hinrich is the player who most puzzled me. He played as if plagued by injury, but I saw no reports of significant injuries.
