Malcolm Gladwell is Back and an Announcement

Posted on November 5, 2007 by

On January 4th of this year Malcolm Gladwell posted a story on Enron and Newspapers at  And then Gladwell went to work on this third book and his blog went dead.  Well, today it came back to life.  For those who don’t want to click on over to, here is his latest post in its entirety:

Serial Killers

I’m back!

I took a little break from blogging, to work on my new book. But now it’s almost finished, and I’m back in the New Yorker this week.  I should be appearing regularly in the magazine again in the New Year, and hopefully posting again fairly regularly.

Here’s the link to my latest. It’s about the strange business of FBI serial killer profiling.

I just finished reading the article and I can say it’s excellent.  But don’t take my word for it, click on the link and read it for yourself (be forewarned, though, this is not about sports).

As noted, Gladwell took a break to work on his third book. I do not know what his third book is about (he hasn’t given me details yet) but his first two books – The Tipping Point and Blink – were very good.  So I am looking forward to his third effort (as are many, many other people).

Gladwell’s suspension of his blog to work on his book strikes me as a very good idea.  No, I am not going to quit The Wages of Wins Journal any time soon (in fact I will have a new column posted before most of you get a chance to read this entry). But the sequel we suggested at the end of The Wages of Wins has moved past the dream stage.  In fact, the contract has been signed and a completed manuscript has been promised for the end of summer.  This means our next book should be available sometime towards the end of 2008.

At the moment we are in the process of collecting data and thinking about stories to tell.  Sometime in the spring, though, the writing will begin in earnest.  And that means, writing on this blog will slow.  I don’t plan on following Gladwell’s lead and completely shutting down, but the columns will start appearing a bit less often (maybe every other day).

Again, this will happen next spring and summer.  Until then, I will do my best to keep the columns coming.

And speaking of these columns, I want to finish my latest tonight.  So go read Gladwell’s story. And I will go finish my latest.
